A fawn (baby deer) was spotted at the zoo in Costa Rica. It was young enough to still have its spots that camouflage it in the wild to protect it from predators. As it gets older, it will lose its spots to blend in better for its age and size. By then, in the wild, it will also have learned to survive on its own without its mother or caretakers. Here the fawn is eating. A couple next to me found that the fawn was friendly to strangers as it came right over to be pet on the head, although it was probably still foraging for food. Wish I had a 2nd person with me to photograph me petting it on the head!
